Notes:

note 1: The following men crewed the James Caird on the journey to South Georgia Island:  Ernest Shackleton, Frank Worsley, Thomas Crean, John Vincent, Timothy McCarthy, Harry McNeish

note 2: four men - Vincent, Holness, McNeish and Stevenson where not recommend for the polar medal by Shackleton.  McNeish was probably not recommended due to his brief mutiny on the ice. the reasons for the others is not clear.

note 3: stowed away aboard endurance at Buenos Aires after Shackleton refused to hire him.  once discovered was assigned tasks as ships steward

Note 4:only traveled with the expedition to south Georgia island where he disembarked over a dispute concerning payment. did not accompany expedition further.
